SAC Performance Engineers unleash The Beast hidden in the Land Cruiser 200 VX turbo-diesel
Estimated Power Gains:
615nm >> 930nm
We all know the guy. On the surface he appears calm and collected, but rub him up the wrong way and you see the sparks fly.
Well, our specialist team of engineers spent countless hours on the dynamometer and we found the Land Cruiser VX’s hidden power. So much power, in fact, that we call this new conversion THE BEAST.
Before we get to the technical details, a bit of background. At Steves Auto Clinic we work very closely with the team from Dastek Power and Unichip to develop, test and fit the world’s best performance enhancing chips. What distinguishes us from the competition is that we map the engine in three dimensions and consider engine speed and engine load alongside other parameters, such as fuel mixture, boost and ignition.
Our engineers are also not happy with merely testing a conversion once and then fitting it to any vehicle. We monitor and test new performance upgrades to breaking point and still insist that every vehicle that is fitted with the conversion be tested in full on our dynamometer to ensure that the chip considers the vehicle’s condition and age, the driver profile and the environment and altitude in which the vehicle will be used.
So back to THE BEAST. With a large engine capacity and the power of two turbos, the Land Cruiser VX 200 has massive power potential which can be unleashed by the vehicle’s electronic management system.
How does an increase of more than 20% in vehicle power and 50% more torque sound like? Yes, you read it correctly! With our new Unichip conversions you can increase your Land Cruiser 200’s torque to levels previously reserved for trucks and supercars!
What is more, this Unichip conversion offers five different engine maps (programmes) that have all been tested and proven in South African conditions by our test engineers. The first map allows for a standard operation, which is exactly as the engine left the factory. Next up is a special map that changes the V8’s character to prioritise fuel economy, this is a very popular choice for city dwellers stuck in regular traffic.
Then the Off-Road and Towing selection, which completely changes the engines’ operation to befit low-down grunt and which makes the engine very responsive to even the slightest touch of the accelerator. Anyone who have tried some technical off-roading will consider this map a heaven sent.
Map 4 and 5 will unleash THE BEAST from its cage. In Map 4 you have access to a deep well of extra power that will surprise anyone who has driven a Land Cruiser 200 VX. The kilowatt and torque jump significantly and you will see the change immediately in your acceleration and top speed.
But dare to choose Map 5 and you suddenly understand why Stephen Fischer and the specialists at Steves Auto Clinic have been considered the performance specialists for more than 30 years. In mode 5 you will find yourself flattened in your backrest as the big and bulky 200 Series suddenly forgets about its weight, ignores the laws of physics and bolts forward like a beast unleashed. In this setting most hot hatches will be left standing and any standard 200 Series will look like it is stuck in neutral!
“We increase the power in several stages and we can offer the Land Cruiser 200 Series owner a Unichip and dynamometer fitment, a new big bore exhaust and other specialist tweaks that gradually build up the power to its ultimate level,” says Stephen Fischer, the founder of Steves Auto Clinic and a specialist in engine performance.
With this in mind, we invite you to visit your nearest Steves Auto Clinic to chat to a specialist for an assessment of your Land Cruiser 200 VX diesel and the power that is available for your specific engine. Even customers who have fitted past iterations of the Unichip or who have had their vehicle’s Electronic Control Unit (ECU) remapped will benefit from visiting an SAC branch to discuss the fitment of the new version and thereby unleashing THE BEAST.
Bolt on exhausts
Gone are the days that you take your half a million-rand Bakkie to a corner exhaust shop for a cheap free flow exhaust. It’s fair to say that the bolt-on free flow exhausts of today at SAC have been revolutionized and are becoming more and more popular amongst the enthusiasts. It is no longer just a poorly welded and routed exhaust that rattles and knocks over every bump, it is a properly engineered, big bore, mandrill bent stainless steel-low restriction exhaust system. It is manufactured in such a way to be a bolt-on fitment in a workshop with very little effort to ensure perfection. Seeing the exhaust system in its raw form, packed and laying on a shelf – it is clear to see that this is an export quality product that will be installed on your vehicle, and it will compliment without any doubt – the performance enhancement plug and play kit and or upgraded intercooler system in many ways – most of all the sound and power will be much improved. The bolt-on exhaust system is routed along the exact same rout under your vehicle and hangs with similar brackets on the standard rubbers. The heat protection that has been provided by the manufacturer under your vehicle to protect the undercarriage is still effective and useful with the fitment of these bolt-on exhaust systems.
