The new Ranger was designed and developed to be the leader of the pack and now delivers more payload and towing capability than ever before, and at the same time, is fitted with an all new class leading 3.2 litre turbodiesel powerplant.

This five-cylinder diesel engine with a flat torque curve has 90% of its 470 Nm available from 1 500 to 2 750 rpm along with 147 kW of power. The all-new Ford Ranger is able to pull full loads on the highway and back roads easily without having to hardly change a gear.  It’s near impossible to make such a good vehicle better.

But as is always the case, more reliable power can be had to further transform your Ford Ranger experience, and Steves Auto Clinic, the performance enhancement specialists have Stage 1 and 2 performance upgrades to offer you that see gains from 5 to 30% depending on the upgrade you choose, with prices starting from as little as R4 000.

Stage 1 sees the fitment of a UniChip U-Connect plug and play computer that comes as a stand-alone product, complete with a wiring harness that plugs directly into your vehicle’s OEM ECU via connectors that are perfectly matched to the factory connectors on your Ford Ranger.

This option is the entry level conservative one at this stage, and will see around a 5% increase in power, however if coupled with a free flow exhaust it can go up to as much as 10%.  Being who we are, that’s simply not enough – so development is underway with our existing UniChip product to enable us to offer you up to a 30% power increase when fitted with our Stage 2 free flow export quality 76mm performance exhaust option.

You can opt to go the U-Connect way right now, and your servicing SAC branch will contact you as soon as the full power mod is available and upgrade you for a minimum charge, or you can pay a hefty premium and have the overseas sourced ‘Injector Driver’ fitted right now.  That increases the power & torque the way we would want it, it’s adjustable.  As always products from abroad are Dollar or Euro based so pricing can be different on the day and starts at around R17 500.00, injector driver only. Stage 2 completed sees the fitment of a free flow performance exhaust system. Here again you have a choice, you can go for a 63mm stainless steel or mild steel system or a bespoke export quality 76mm mandrel bent system either in stainless steel or mild steel.
