|SAC Ford Focus ST|
|By Mark Jones of Performance Motor Media.|
Ford’s Focus ST has proved to be extremely popular amongst performance enthusiasts over the years and most recently Ford SA decided to cosmetically freshen up this model, but leaving the tried and tested 2.5 litre 5-cylinder turbocharged powertrain as it has always been.
Which means in standard form you still get 166 kW at 6 000 rpm and 320 Nm at 1 600 rpm all running through a slick shifting six-speed transmission. This is good enough to see the Focus get to 100 km/h in under 8 seconds and top out at almost 240 km/h true speed up here on the Reef.
But what if you as a performance enthusiast, want more?
I don’t think we need to tell you that the biggest hurdle you face in the quest for power is the losing of your vehicles warranty, should your car of course still have one in place, by doing work that is not approved by the manufacturer.
Well firstly, should you no longer have a warranty in place or perhaps your warranty has lapsed because you might have missed a service or two, then the guys at Steves Auto Clinic have the expertise to build you a Ford Focus ST that can be anything from a mild chip tuning upgrade to a wild enthusiasts dream that includes a bigger cooler, performance exhaust, cold induction kit etc. and tons of horsepower to boot without any concern for this highly contentious issue.
And should your warranty still be in place, SAC can still offer you the same service, but it will ultimately come down to you and the relationship you have with your servicing dealer as to how they will view your car going forward and what they would be prepared to continue to cover it from a warranty point of view once it has been upgraded.
We are well aware that any motor manufacturer reserves the right to cancel your vehicles factory warranty and / or motorplan / service plan should you modify your vehicle, but it is worth noting that this not only applies to tuning upgrades, a little known fact is that this scenario can extend to something as the simple fitting of aftermarket alloy wheels, to even sound system upgrades that are not authorised.
And in SAC’s 25 years as the country’s leading aftermarket performance enhancers and over the course of thousands and thousands of performance upgrades, history has shown us that most manufacturer service outlets treat their clients with the same respect that their clients treat them, and this includes those that have had their vehicles responsibly upgraded.
So should you want to know more about upgrading your Ford Focus ST, feel free to contact a SAC consultant at a branch near you and he will give you the right advice for the right job.
