FUEL INJECTOR REFURBISHING
How do we do it ?
With the latest technology in injector servicing & refurbishment, we are able to test up to 8 injectors at a time to compare spray patterns from one injector to another.
This will determine which injectors are causing the problem.
We are also able to test the pulse, leakage, cold start, and flow rate delivery of each individual injector.
Better Fuel Consumption is about correct combustion.
Combustion is reliant on correct fuel atomisation.
For minimum pollution, good performance, as well as good fuel economy and engine drivability, correct atomisation is no longer an option, it is a requirement.
Checking the Injectors
Do you recognize any of these problems?
Poor atomisation will also cause problems for the Lambda Sensor and clogging or damaging of the expensive to replace, Catalytic Converter.
Too much fuel and you have poor fuel economy as the fuel is not burnt and wasted.
Too little fuel and the engine's performance will suffer with lack of power, and poor performance.
In the long term, servicing your injectors could save you thousands of rands in petrol and repair bills.
If you are thinking "I will sell the car before I have to fix it", that could just be what the owner of the next car you are about to purchase is thinking!
The Petrol Injector Valve is the only component on the whole fuel injection system that actually does the fuel injecting.
The injector has the finest tolerances of any mechanical part on the engine.
Regular servicing of injectors (every 40 000 - 60 000 km) will not only maintain Performance, Fuel Economy and minimum Exhaust pollution, it will also prolong the life of very important components like the Lambda Sensor and the Catalytic Converter.
Both of these items are very costly to replace when they have failed, protect them now and save money.
At what mileage did you have your injectors serviced?
Once we have tested the injectors, they are ultrasonically cleaned in a special bath.
Ultrasonic cleaning of injectors is the only way to guarantee the injectors are clinically clean and back to their original condition.
After the cleaning process, the injectors are once again tested to ensure that they are functioning correctly.
Recognize any of these problems?
Starting - Will not start properly
Idling - Uneven idling
Performance - Loss of power, flat spots
Economy - Poor fuel consumption
Drivability - Hesitates, engine "pinks"
Lambda Failure - Slow in response
Catalyst Failure - Failing but no cause found
It becomes necessary from time to time to check the injectors for:
Operating Pressure Sealing AbilitySpray Pattern Shutter Effect
Most important of all, it is necessary to first establish whether or not the correct injector nozzle is being used.
In our experience we have found many a diesel to be running with completely the wrong injector nozzles, which is normally only identified when the vehicle is not able to be tuned to perfection.
In most cases we are able to save an injector nozzle if it has not been abused and exposed to very high temperatures for long periods of time.
The injector housing is stripped and the nozzle is removed.
We make use of an ultrasonic bath in which the nozzles are cleaned and then inspected.
If there are no signs of melting or pitting on the tip, we are then able to assemble the injector and shim the spring to operate at a specific pressure.
The shape of the operating pin in the nozzle is also very important, as this enables the shutter effect, which atomises the diesel as it is injected into the combustion chamber.
If we were not able to save the old tip, the entire process is the same, except for the cleaning of the old nozzle in the ultrasonic bath.
If a new tip is used, it still needs to be tested and shimmed to perfection.
In our opinion, if injectors are serviced regularly they will last as long as they need to, in most cases they will outlast the engine.
