Unfortunately most standard air intake systems tend to be very restrictive, mostly due to the
cost of manufacturing bespoke tuning items in
mass produced vehicles and also to eliminate engine
noise. |
There are ways around this, you can flow the interior
of the intake to reduce air resistance, provide
a more direct route to the air intake or increase
the diameter of the air intake thus increasing
the airflow. |
But it is not simple as you think; well designed cold air
intakes should be made from quality and durable
materials and use heat shields to isolate the
air filter from the rest of the engine compartment,
and provide cooler air from the front or side
of the engine bay. |
Get it wrong and you won’t have enough air for your
vehicle to operate at all rpm ranges, and then
go too big and the intake system efficiency can
be lost and you will also see a drop off in performance. |
All cold air intakes operate on the principle of increasing the amount
of oxygen available to burn with the fuel, and
this results in extra horsepower! There can be
nothing better than the induction sound and feel
of a well tuned and powerful car. |
